The first generation of Day-Date is Ref.6511, this Day-Date watch carry with Cal.1055, but in 1957, the movement update to Cal.1055B. The Cal.1055B equipped with Microstella balance wheel. Rolex use the exclusive patent in Day-Date again. Refer to Microstella balance wheel; the patent number of Switzerland is CHX2239668. In the late 1950’s rolex launched the new generation of movement and rolex user-defined the concept of Superlative Chronometer. Then, the dial plate engraved words also add this title, and this is the famous Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. And the Day-Date Ref.6611 which carry with Cal.1055B movement become the first watch which mark the Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified.
In 1959, Day-Date update to Ref.1803 and carry with Cal.1555 movement, 26 stones, and the swing frequency is 18000, the basal movement is Cal.1530.
In 1965, the movement updates to Cal.1556 and the swing frequency increased to 19800
In 1972, Cal.1556 movement adds a function of Stop seconds.
In 1977, rolex launched Cal.3035 movement which the swing frequency is 28800VPH. The Cal.3035 adds date week parts and change to Cal.3055, the movement of Cal.3055 has the function of adjust the calendar, so the type changes to Ref.18038.
In the same year, rolex invented self-produced Cal.5055 quartz movement, the Day-Date carry with this movement and there are many Day-Date series watches carry with this movement, such as Ref.19018, Ref.19019, Ref.19028, Ref.19048, Ref.19049, Ref.19149 and so on.
Rolex launched Quartz Day-Date Ref.19168 in 1984.
In 1988, the Cal.3135 upgrade to Cal.3155 and the day-date can be adjusted. And the model change to Ref.18238.
In 2006, Ref.118238 replaced the Ref.18238, although the movement is the same but the shape has changed. The original drawing ear change to polishing ear, the watchcase and watch clasp also been modified.
In 2008, rolex launched Day-Date II and the diameter from 36mm increased to 41mm. the model is Ref.218238，the movement of this watch equipped with Paraflex shock absorber and upgrade to Cal.3156.
